Social Service Coordinator SUMMARY La Uni n del Pueblo Entero, LUPE is a social justice, community-building, membership organization, founded by Cesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta.
The Receptionist will have a unique opportunity to join a skilled and innovative team within a rapidly growing, digital-driven organization at the forefront of immigration in the borderlands.
The Receptionist reports directly to the Social Service Coordinator.
The Receptionist will perform several office support tasks to facilitate efficient operations of La Union del Pueblo Entero, LUPE.
This person will work closely with all LUPE departments, especially Immigration Services, and managers to support the daily office needs.
LUPE has a sister organization, LUPE Votes, a separate but related, nonprofit organization exempting federal income tax under section 501(c)(4) of the Internal Revenue Code.
Although LUPE and LUPE Votes share a common goal of supporting immigrants and low-income people in Rio Grande Valley and nationally, they are separate organizations with their own boards of directors and a set of employees at the two organizations, including the person filling this position, shares their time between the two organizations.
This does not affect salary or benefits.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

Answers incoming telephone calls, determines purpose of callers, forwards calls to appropriate personnel or department, and/or takes and delivers messages when the person is not available.
Provides basic and accurate information and answers general questions in-person and via phone/email Greets and welcomes on-site visitors in a respectful and courteous manner, determines nature of business, and directs them to the appropriate personnel and office.
Takes payments for services and products and generates printed receipt for the transaction.
Receive, sort and distribute daily mail/deliveries Ensure reception area is tidy and presentable, with all necessary stationery and material (e.
g.
pens, forms and brochures) Request office supplies from Administration and keep inventory of stock Process new member applications and renewals applications.
Perform other clerical receptionist duties such as filing, photocopying, translating, and transcribing Perform other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Familiarity, commitment and sensitivity to Movement principals and community issues.
Strong proficiency English-Spanish language; verbal & writing translation language skills.
Combination of experience, education and skills necessary to perform work responsibilities.
Sound judgment; ability to work with diverse clients and maintain confidentiality.
Proficiency with computers, including MS Word and Excel.
LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
Ability to write simple correspondence.
Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Bilingual ability in English and Spanish required.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
REASONING ABILITY Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
